I was once shot down on Facebook by someone for posting a Donovan song on there. This guy, a Dylan fanatic associated Donovan with Don't Look Back where he's famously crushed by his hero. Sure, he's fey and trying when he gets it wrong. But listen to Season of the Witch, Wear Your Love Like Heaven, Atlantis, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Sunny Goodge Street or countless others of his best songs where he hits his stride and you've got to doff your cap to the pixie-headed sprite. He was certainly never lacking in self-belief. Listen to him long enough in interviews for example and he'll convince you he invented The Beatles.
