Song(s) of the Day # 815 Arthur Russell


A maverick figure who made his name as an art, pop and dance figure on the New York scene during the seventies and eighties. Classically trained and skilled in minimalist performance, an associate of Allen Ginsberg, Steve Rejch, Philip Glass and David Byrne among others, he used his influence in the art world to put on shows The Modern Lovers and Talking Heads in the mid-seventies. The song below, show his understanding of that form.



I'd direct you first towards the 2008 compilation Love Is Taking Me Over, for further listening pleasure. This selection here is just the tip of the iceberg as far as his talent is concerned.

  1. The tribute album (Master Mix) that came out in late 2014 is really very good, and I'm generally not a fan of tribute albums.
