Song(s) of the Day # 3,469 Sunshine Convention

Brooklyn's Sunshine Convention tell you all you need to know about them within three minutes of their debut. They are Post Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Their guitars clash and chime with heady, carefree abandon. This leads to an off tune but happy wonder. And no little feedback as required.

Added to the mix is everything that the Pre and Post Grunge bands, also influenced by Neil and The Horse brought to the table. To name some names, Dinosaur Jr, Teenage Fanclub, Buffalo Tom and Grandaddy. So in addition to Neil you get all that. If you know these bands, you'll know what this means.

That's it essentially. It's a group of young, like minded friends. They probably like to wear their jeans ragged and frayed at the knees. They may have wardrobes lined with plaid and checked shirt. They smoke doobies on a fairly regular basis. I hope I'm not doing them a great disservice but all of these things are fairly laudable.

The further I got into Sunshine Convention the more impressed I was by it. It lays down what it is immediately and never once strays from that formula. That doesn't mean it won't find its natural audience nor that they will adore it.

So if the next War on Drugs record is too far away and you can't wait, here are Sunshine Convention, If you like the things I mentioned you will almost certainly like them. I do. Thanks once more Darren. Another plum .Listening again on Saturday ,morning this strikes me a small but rather priceless gem

  1. Great, isn't it? I get Guided by Voices playing power pop at points, too.... Anyway, all stuff I like!
