Song(s) of the Day # 3,451 Claud

Supermodels the second album from Chicago starlet Claud is immediately the very picture of introverted youth. A Windy City equivalent of Arlo Parks where Elliott Smith is a much more central inspiration than Frank Ocean.

Claud poses artfully on the cover with a camera, a striped shirt, a New Wave haircut that resembles a young kestrel preparing to leave the nest and a surly impression on their face that suggests they might not come down to tea and stay and sulk in their room instead.

There's so much of this gender assertion, emotional confusion Bedroom Pop around these days. It's definitely not made with the likes of me in mind. I don't wish to be cancelled but this kind of disconnect and directionless all rather melds into one pert snarl after a while and I'm afraid I'd rather listen to something with slightly less self regard. Or else I am a Bird where it actually works towards an unstoppable artistic statement that projects outwards rather than eternally inwards. Sorry and all that !.
