The Heart of Rock and Soul # 709 Otis Redding

'Undoubtedly the greatest rock and roll record ever made from a nursery rhyme, not only because Otis manages to find a way to turn the concept into a confession of his passion for the little lamb tender and of his deep disgust at how the school authorities have done her wrong, but because he winds up shouting it out like a garage-band Little Richard and the MGs and the Memphis Horns have the time of their lives. Anybody who thinks soul isn't a form of rock and roll has yet to reckon with this one. (Naturally, it got lost on the B side of his second single, a flop).'
