I love Kate Bush. Every bit as much as the next English boy who turned thirteen in 1978 when she first appeared on the Pop horizon working out in that video on a heath in that pink leotard and doing funny things to our hormonal sensibilities forever. Oh Kate ! I've never got over it.None of us did.
But I'm contrary. I just don't like The Hounds of Love as much as othe Kate -heads and Pop Authorities . It's that Eighties production I think. Considered the height of modernity at the time, but I just don't like that sheen Fairlight thing. The relentless drums. The sense that it was all State of the Art. Generally it's a record that I admire rather than finding my pulse racing as is the case almost invariably on other Kate albums.
But still it's Kate. And in many respects 1985 was her year of realisation. So even if the Hounds of Love album still leaves me somewhat cold in contrast with her other records before and since. It's Kate! It's Kate!.
