1985 Singles # 27 Primal Scream

Bobby Gillespie made his way into the public spotlight during 1985. Insect royalty, a spindly but spiky vision of confrontation and ennui. Byrds meet PiL. It took a while for him and Primal Scream to come upon the sound that made them a genuine commercial and critical proposition.

In the meantime Bobby mouthed off in the NME. Slagging off others and maintaining that he was the real deal. The uncrowned king. In leather troosers. Chelsea Boots. Polkadot Shirt and bowlhead hair cut that in a bad night resembled one of the rodent gang in Toad of Toad Hall. When the spotlight caught him at the right angle, a member of Arthur Lee's Love.

This was Promal Scream's standout early song. The one where they best talked the talk and walked the walk. A tribute to Edie Sedgewick. It was only a B Side. It should have been their debut single.
