Things were changing in the first half of 1985 but I was in Switzerland. This was Pre Internet kids if you can imagine such fundamental deprivation. I don't really know how to put this. We were happy. Anyhow, I had little access to the NME and Melody Maker and was late on the rise of the bands that became the C86 movement when the former finally took notice of the fanzine clamour for these bands and their shared sensibilities and wanton, inept charm. grouped them together and immortalised them.
The Shop Assistants were the Ramones essentially. If they had been younger, female and slightly more in touch with their fragile sensitive cores. So Joey's band rather than Johnny's. They really hit with their 1986 debut album Will Anything Happen. The 1985 four track Shopping Parade EP served up a tasty entre.
