Song(s) of the Day # 784 Easter Monkeys

Proper Rock and Roll of the highest order in the very best Cleveland, Ohio tradition from a band whose guitarist Jim Jones had played in Mirrors, one of that cities leading Punk pioneers and also roadied for Pere Ubu. Easter Monkeys were around in the early eighties and had a masterful grip on that lived in, loose, slightly desperate but deeply streetwise sound that Pere Ubu, Rocket From the Tombs, Electric Eels, Dead Boys and Mirrors had traded on in the previous decade. They only released one song during the course of their time as a band, but a wonderful compilation Splendor of Sorrow Plus was put together after the event. Listen through to it and you may be convinced that these are some of the best, raw Rock and Roll songs that you've never heard. A true, though little documented force of nature.
