And following that, the second spurious series inspired by the radio in an afternoon. One of the features of the Ratcliffe / Maconie programme is to play a series of records with some link which listeners have to identify. Today was songs featuring recorders, which led me via a Wikipedia search to this. A Salty Dog, is an album that I've hovered over in record racks, largely because it has such a wonderful cover. I have some time for A Whiter Shade of Pale, and also enjoy some stuff from similarly minded bands of the time such as Traffic and Family. The aura of Prog whimsy I associate with Procol has always put me off and on listening to the whole record this afternoon I thought I was right. I do like this however, and it features that most esteemed primary school instrument. I thought it the best song on the record and the recorders play no small part in that small achievement.
