Songs About People # 28 Mose Allison - Pixies

'From distant star to this here bar.'

I love this particular series. It's got legs.  This song is not a tribute to a girl named Allison but to jazz pianist and vocalist Mose Allison. Partly for his concision I imagine. Fittingly, in addition it's also a tribute to Frank Black's concise, mathematical song-writing genius. Fancy being able to wrap this up in a minute and seventeen seconds. This song was a gift to those into compiling mix cassette tapes in the early nineties with a little space to fill on the end of one side. Tell that to the kids!

"Allison"
from distant star
to this here bar
the me, the you
where are we now?
horray the blues
of everyone
allison

keeps a smile
around a while
he took no fright
and jettisoned
we'll go tonight
to hear him tell
"oh well"
allison
allison

and when the planet hit the sun
i saw the face of allison
allison
allison

C - Black

Here's something quite wonderful from the Mose Allison trio! Equally beautiful. I'll have to investigate his stuff further. My own personal discovery of the day thanks to Pixies.
