B Sides # 1

Seem to be starting a spate of series on here. Trust me it won't last. Coldest part of the winter and I'm skint which induces more posts. Here are a few great b sides. Anyone who grew up in the great age of vinyl and bought singles will understand the importance of those. TBC.

                      1. The Smiths - Jeane (b side to This Charming Man) Up there with the very best b-sides ever released surely

2. Echo & the Bunnymen - Devils & Angels (b side to Silver). Astonishingly good not to be on an album. Bunnymen were great on b sides. Do it Clean was technically a b side. The Back of Love 12' inch has great b sides. I recommend investigation.

3. The Beatles - Rain (b side to Paperback Writer). I have friends who don't like The Beatles. Personally I can't quite understand that. I like them very much. Such a wondeful psychedelic record. Lennon's sneer, LSD arrogance, a great bass line and Ringo's finest hour.

4. Joy Division - These Days (b side to Love Will Tear Us Apart)

5. The Shins - Sphagnum Esplanade (b side to New Slang). A sign the b side is not entirely dead. At least it wasn't ten years ago. Quite brilliant record. Something of the spirit of Syd Barrett's Floyd.
