250 Albums- An Arbitrary Rumble Through My Record Collection # 157 The Smiths - The World Won't Listen

'I was bored befire I even began...'

Morrissey and The Smiths sing songs of a certain alienation and ennui that take me back like an unerring arrow to my university days. The LCR at the UEA in Norwich. I met a girl I liked and we went back to her room and we got to know each other . Fell in love. Listened to The Smiths, Lloyd Cole & The Commitions, R.E.M, The Go Betweens .and the like. I still listen to all of these things. I stand by my youthly judgement.

But The Smiths and Morrissey especially of course stand on their own. Morrissey always embodied an apartness that was a banner to band together follow at the time embody certaun characteristics. More than any band they seem to embody certain characteristics of defiance and resolution. A certain doomed humour and rigour.
