The warbling tonsils of The Undertones. A quite extraordinary, idiosyncratic singer with a personality to match. Occasionally almost scary in terms of his youthful intensity. Gradually grew apart from the rest of the band and sensibly refused to rejoin when they reformed a few years back saying, quite reasonably, that he didn't really fancy the idea of singing Teenage Kicks, in a field, in his fifties. The Undertones back in the day had some truly skyscrapingly wonderful oddball moments, none of which would have been the same without Sharkey's bristling, trembling vocals.
