Song(s) of the Day # 2,688 Mara Connor

An interesting concept. Mara Connor, a Californian releases an EP featuring a series of covers of songs from a decade each Fifties to Nineties. Called Decades appropriately enough. Covered in a Judy Collins kind of way. It all works very well, Connor's melodic trill is very taking and the record is a breeze.

So you get Ain't That a Shame, Blues Run The Game, Old Man, Come Here and Ballad of Big Nothing. Connor wisely plays it fairly straight, not message around with the basic structures of songs so sturdy that messing with them would be something of a crime.

There's a simply beauty to this straightforward exercise. A lovely voice, a lovely set of songs, lovely arrangements. Perhaps I shoud find another synonym really but it's the one that fits best here.
