American stalwarts The National came back this year with their seventh album Sleep Well Beast. I liked it well enough but haven't included it on my countdown list for that format in deference for a good friend and supporter of this blog who is a long term devotee of that band but was disgusted with the record. I put this here though as I liked it and any song called The System Only Dreams in Darkness deserves consideration and the track itself burned brightly.
