Song(s) of the Day # 932 Esperanza Spalding

Something new for the new week. Esperanza Spalding's recently released released record Emily's D+evolution. And this sounds quite 'new' to me. Ostensibly jazz, but only in the respect that Miles Davis used to term it as not jazz but 'social music'. In the sense that the best jazz has always been, i.e. ahead of the game.

Spalding is a bassist and also a quite extraordinary vocalist and arranger, so much happening in every track. Just three of them posted here but really it needs to be heard as a whole. Can't help you in terms of what it might be all about but it's quite magical, whatever it is!
