Misfits make the musical world. They realise at a certain age that they're don't want and anyway are not going to be able to match up to societal expectations, form bands as the first step to opy out and the results over the ecades have been glorious. It's always a thill to come across a set of young brats enacting this time honoured act of rebellion.
Pittsburgh's Short Fictions are the latest example of this enduring teenage insurgency. They take the lead from Green Day and Black Lips most obviously. Second album, and wait for it Oblivion Will Own Me & Death Alone Will Love Me, is one three minute splurge of 'fuck you I won't do what you tell me,' after another. Splendid titles with anthemic fists and middle fingers raised to mom, dad, teacher and the man.
This isn't really a record made for the likes of me. Let's face it I'm a great deal closer to 60 than 16, and really I never really fely this way in the first place. Some of us just never went through this phase. It's there for those who are doing so or did. It does its job with magnificent spleen..
