Bad Books latest, a revisit of their 2012 album II essentially had me from the off. A loping bass line that told the listener instantly that they were deeply versed in Northern English Indie folklore from Joy Division to Doves to Elbow,
Bad Books are a trio that have paid their dues. They've been putting out records since 2010 and they keep things simple. Giving their records Roman numerals rather than conventional titles. II: Revisited gives the earlier record greater light and space than it initially had.
These are thoughtful reworkings. The original record is not one I'm personally hugely familiar with it, but I'll correct that later today. Bad Books clearly know their Simon & Garfunkel and Vampire Weekend harmonising in addition to their early Factory B-Sides. There's much sheer loveliness on show here and I was very taken indeed.
