Last year I went to see Canadian Japanese avant nutters at Headful of Steam, just round the corner from me in the Newcastle city centre. It was one of the most purely enjoyable evenings out I've had for years.
It made little coherent sense, neither do their records but lets face it, neither do most Manga films and these seem to act as much as a basis for what TEKE: TEKE do as anything else.
They've got another record out called Hagata. I'd find it difficult to state with any authority whether it's any better than 2021's Shirushi. It just seems like a natural continuation of its utterly freeform madcap spirit.
If you like nights at the funfair, screaming your head off for no apparent reason, beach parties, fireworks, behaving like a child, The B 52's, Sun Ra and Shonen Knife then you will probably like this. If you don't, what exactly is wrong with you?
