Song(s) of the Day # 2,547 The Corner Laughers

Described as a 'West Coast Belle & Sebastian', by The Guardian, an attractive proposition in my book. A perfunctory listen to pretty much any song on the band's latest album Temescal Telegraph, (from last year)is enough to recognise precisely how they got this description. As well as making you want to listen on. I thought the record so good I took it all in at a single sitting.

This is literate, melodic amiable stuff. The Corner Laughers know their chops and are masters of their craft. Perhaps they are barelling straight down the middle of the road, but there are worse places to be. They're like the friend you could bring home to meet your parents.

If it might seem at points as if this is the record that proves definitively that Punk never happened, would you really want every record to sound like Search & Destroy? I think not. The Corner Laughers have the last laugh. Sweet but not sickly.
