One of the ways in which Inherent Vice uses music so effectively is by giving it its full due. Rather than fading out tracks it allows them to pulse through to their natural end, playing just as prominent a role as the images and dialogue they accompany. Can's Vitamin C, one of this truly great band's definitive tracks, plays from the opening credits and on throughout the first ten minutes of the movie, helping to embed its narcotic, trippy mood.
