Pete Wylie always had a mouth on him. As wide as the Mersey as he might have sung himself. Wah! the band he fronted had plenty of great songs down the years. Eventually they settled into a declamatory anthemic groove, like some kind of Scouse Clash and this spawned their great chart moment Story of the Blues which was released at the end of 1982 and hung around the singles charts for a couple of months peaking at # 3 in January of '83.
It was a very special song and Wylie's special moment. Staunchly supported by Peel he flirted further with the hit parade over the next few years like some throwback leather jacket clad Sixties idol, but this was the moment of validation that he was born to be a star. He has a website named 'Part Time Rock Star. Full Time Legend.' It's all rather overstated to put it kindly.
In 1991 he had an almost fatal accident when a fence he was leaning on collapsed and he fell 20 feet to the concrete below. He's never quite been the same since. His moment was really the early months of 1983.
