Low Roar is an Icelandic Post Rock / Electronica project by American immigrant Ryan Karazija apparently. Thanks Wikipedia. maybe tomorrow their fifth album since 2010 is just out.
I'm not entirely sure what Post Rock means. What this record reminds me of is Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Perfume Genius and Radiohead most of all. Fairly conventional alternative song structures all the time with mouth open wonder of awe and pain at the sheer realisation of being alive.
It's altogether rather lovely I must say, Karazija has a remarkable voice, two parts Jeff Buckley, one part Thom, one part whoever used to sing in Mercury Rev, one part the bloke in Geneva. It's all very captivating, without ever quite breaking into its own field.
Nevertheless, it certainly has some emotionally compelling moments for whenever you want that Ladies & Gentlemen We are Floating in Space moment. Well it's cheaper than a floatation tank session.
