Bill Baird, Austin, Texan based curator of the spirit of the Velvets, Suicide and The 13th Floor Elevators is back with a stunning new album Death Smile.
It's a record that sets off constant reminders of other alternative records from down the decades while navigating its own course.
In many ways Baird plays a similar role to Kelley Stolz as a custodian for a certain tradition of leftfield doggedness and vision.
Death Smile gives you a damned good idea what is in his record collection but there is nothing remotely slavish about this. The best record I've heard of this sort for a while.
