Song(s) of the Day # 2,428 Naked Roommate

'Can I have a taste of your ice cream? Can I lick the crumbs from your table? Can I interfere in your crisis? No, mind your own business!'

Leeds  DIY meisters Delta 5 finest moment. Good to hear that this mood and sensibility has not been forgotten. Evidence to this arriving recently in the wonderful form of Naked Roommate's debut album Do The Duvet.

Hailing from Oakland, California, Naked Roommate have a terrible name, (so it comes from the title of a Harlan Cohen book, who cares?), but a wonderful sound. One that stirs feminist heroes Kleenex, Tom Tom Club, the aforementioned Delta 5, Au Pairs, Girls at Our Best, Raincoats, Waitresses, CSS, ESG and more into the mix to quite thrilling effect.

Sounds formulaic, but in actual fact Do The Duvet is anything but. Because Naked Roommate bring the songs and the grooves. All you need is your dancing shoes. Changing gear and direction with incredible elan, listening to this is like watching a downhill slalom skiing gold medal run, so immaculate is the band's sense of control throughout.

Ten tracks of hugely differing length but incredibly consistent quality, this is an album that may not get a huge amount of recognition but certainly deserves it. Hopefully it will find its way to the ears that will appreciate it. In the words of the late, great Irish comic Frank Carson, ' It's a cracker.'
