100 Mavericks # 11 Robert Forster

And next to Lou Reed at the Last Supper of Mavericks appropriately is a Lou disciple. This blog takes its name from a Go Betweens and Forster is one half of the  matchless songwriting team that guided that band. While the other half of that team, Grant McLennan is the more level headed of pair, Forster is pure maverick, a lanky poetic figure, always slightly aloof and apart but with a yearning and ever-present heart forever at the core of his songs.

He has a book coming out in the autumn about his relationship with McLennan which I can't wait to read. He's also overseeing a couple of boxsets, one already out, another forthcoming, focused on The Go Betweens early records. It's wonderful that he's chosen to act as historian of this deeply special band. So he gets a place on the virtual table of great mavericks, sat between two of his heroes.
