At the age of 6 lead Throwing Muse Kirsten Hersh was a hippie commune child whose baby sitter was on acid. This might go some way to explaining the band's first album which sounded like mentally deranged folk music. I found it really quite disturbing when it first came out. Hersh has since documented the painful experiences that informed her songwriting. Their first album was eclipsed commercially though not critically when Pixies arrived a few months later, also on 4AD Records. It's an album that's still worth a listen. This song was actually written by Tanja Donnelly but is very characteristic of that record's threatening tone.
