The thirty five minutes of this record send me spinning back in time to my first year at university and the company of a lovely girl I met there and started going out with. Her company and presence and essential happy qualities lit up my life and still does. She loved The Housemartins. As she loved The Smiths, Half Man Biscuit, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, and many others. Most importantly she loved me as I loved her. I still thank her for the light she brought into my life.
As for The Housemartins. This record had wit and wisdom, breezy tunes, a certain seriousness when they felt it was necessary. They had their politics and believed in them. The album is very much of its time. But there is still truth here.
