A few weeks back I splashed out and bought myself a Sun Ra single collection. The first volume 1952 - 61. It's there in one of my cardboard crates whenever I need it. There are certainly moments when I need it.
A sound that was once so out there and uncontainable has now become a recognisable sub genre in itself. Irreversible Entanglements a Brooklyn project originally speak in this now recognisable argot for the course of their latest album Protect Your Light.
It's a whacky, offbeat but quite recognisable journey now. Still filled with rage and cool. A black experience essentially but one that anyone with an ounce of joy and adventure in them is sure to enjoy.
