Song of the Day # 3,507 Plenamente

Buenos Aires arty types Plenamente have that claustrophobic twisted sound that My Bloody Valentine conjured up at the end of the Eighties which was such a revelation at the time.

They don't veer for a moment from this script for the course of Placard, their latest album. This makes it a curiosity rather than a revelation. But it's a diversion and this remains a wonderful sound.

  1. Thanks for this, Bruce. There seems to be a real shoegaze renaissance at the moment, and I can't help but be attracted to it, even if it doesn't move forward, particularly. Funnily enough, I was listening to the new album by Human Colonies yesterday, which ploughs a similar furrow.

  2. OK will get onto that. Thanks. The whole Shoegaze full on everlasting global revival is very odd to witness. Particularly given the way the British press derided it first time around.Journalists hated it. It was fine. I liked lots of the groups. MBV, Ride, Pale Saints, Lush, Moose. Just not Slowdive or Chapterhouse particularly.

  3. Think I'm with you on all those! Saw Moose supporting Lush in 1990 and they blew me away. Went on to do even more interesting things beyond shoegaze. Never got Slowdive!

  4. I had a similar experience with Pale Saints. Also playing with Lush one night in 1990. Never saw Moose but always liked the records.
