Fruit Bats - A River Running to Your Heart

There are some things you could mortgage your house on. The sun coming up in the morning. Then going down at night. Politicians turning out to be untrustworthy and letting you down regardless of early promise. Nothing good on the TV tonight.

Then there's Fruit Bats. Whenever you hear there's a new Fruit Bats album you can be pretty sure, as eggs is eggs, that it's going to be a pretty damned good record. Not earth-shattering perhaps, but easy going, and tuneful, wistful and something that's more than likely to fill your heart with joy at some point.

Such is the case with A River Running to Your Heart the 2023 entry into the Fruit Bats journey. It sounds exactly, but exactly like you'd expect it to. Early Seventies Beach boys when Brian's head was in a bad place, Harry Nilsson, Kevin Morby. Sitting in a beach hut with a bunch of amiable, slightly stoned longhairs. Waves lapping on the shore. A cool band, fronted by a slightly irritating lead vocal it needs saying. This, if they have one is the Fruit Bats' Achilles Heel.

This is not the Fruit Bats album where the calls for Eric D. Johnson, (for he is the guiding pilot behind the project) to get the call for The Hall of Fame become overpowering. It's really just another Fruit Bats album. But hey, it's another good one. That's far more than the vast majorityout there  can stake a claim to.
