Boasting an immediately arresting and astonishing voice, Amythyst Kiah's latest album Wary + Strange is an immediate head-turner. Blessed with incredibly emotive tones, pitched halfway between Joan Armatrading and Tracy Chapman, with a generous helping of old school Blues thrown in for good measure, the record has plenty of strong songs to back up Kiah's dramatic delivery.
Fairly traditional in natureboth in terms of style and approach. Mostly focused on the troubled course of love or the sorry state of the world, there's plenty of invention within the narrow parameters Kiah setsfor herself to keep the listener interested.
