Now this is an exciting way to start a Saturday morning. Chicago's Kai Slater, who also plays and sings in Lifeguard, is the force behind Sharp Pins and they're a considerable force if debut album Turtle Rock is anything to go by.
Reminiscent of ringing, psychedelic things. Syd's Floyd, Flamin' Groovies, Teenage Fanclub, Guided by Voices, Cleaners of Venus. A strange, sweet sound based most of all on an undying love of the way guitars sound.
Also a love of eccentric, individual journeys through life. I was reminded of many more of my favourite things. Steve Marriott, Robyn Hitchcock, Martin Phillips, Andy Partridge. All in all a really marvelous record to chance upon.
