Hello Mary are a young trio who hail from Brooklyn. Their eponymous debut album is making waves in fashionable circles. It can't hurt coming from New York. That city still has a cool allure like no other.
What more to say about Hello Mary? They're fresh out of college and love Nineties Alternative Guitar Music. Bassist Mikaeler Openheimer's dad's favourite band is Neutral Milk Hotel and her mum's is Pavement. They would both surely love the noise their little girl and her mates are making.
To say this is a homage to American Nineties alternative music doesn't begin to do things justice, It's a protracted love letter frankly. I'm not complaining. I lived through that decade first time round and loved it. I'm just slightly perplexed that this record is so permanently housed there. There are other decades.
You get Hole. You get Throwing Muses, Belly and Sleater Kinney. Nirvana. It's wonderfully rendered and Hello Mary will surely go far on the back of it. Once more to the moshpit dear friends, once more!
