Song(s) of the Day # 3,141 The Autumn Saints

The Autumn Saints come riding out of Oxford, England, though giving any of their records the most cursory of listens, you'd assume they'd hail from Missouri ir Ohio. This is such an American sound.Band, Dylan and Cash are probably where this music has its roots. Or else tales of the West; Billy, Jesse and Butch.

Their second album Wind Burn & Broken Oak is a wonderful showcase for the band. Full of ragged, but at thesame time finely honed tunes that would sound just fine on a Saturday evening at your local in front of a raging fire.

Vocalist North Carolina's Britt Strickland has something of the yearning quality of Long Ryder's Syd Griffin to him and gives the band plenty of authentic American soul. Wind Burn & Broken Oak's other immediate quality is its fine set of songs and atmosphere.

I'll definitely be playing this on again . I'll also keep my eye on The Autumn Saints touring schedule and make sure I see them if they head my way. Definitely the real deal.
