The Go! Team - Get Up Sequences Part 1

I was slightly disppointed listening through to the latest album from Brighton's Go! Team, their sixth in all, on Friday morning. Not that it's a bad record, far from it, they have a magical concept and sound, one of my favourites of all, and it's fully on display here, just that it doesn't cohere as a fully consistent album and is probably best heard in individual chunks where it can really make its mark rather than as a long playing record.

First, the Go! Team concept, dayglo Sesame Street flavours tht would appeal wholly to fans of De La Soul and The Avalanches. The sound of skipping ropes constantly whirring in the background, the vibe that Malcolm McLaren first brought to general notice with Duck Rock in the early Eighties. With that My Bloody Valentine woozy vibe stirred in occasionally for good measure.

So far so good! Full on positivity. What could possibly go wrong. Not much on an individual basis. Several tracks here are right up there with the best things the band have ever done. It just doesn't really work as an album for me. Guess this one's a Pick and Mix, like Woolworth's back in the old days.
