John's breakthrough 1970 album is an interesting listen. Deeply rooted in Americana, (though it probably wasn't called that back then), and most obviously the first two records by The Band, though his own voice is clear already elsewhere on the record. It broke him big in America. A case of selling coals to Newcastle in some respects. One of four entries from him in this particular rundown. Early Elton John is something I've come to appreciate as I've become older. There was a reason why he sold so many records.
