Tasmanian one man band, Julian Teakle (or at least he sounds like a one man band), has a fine new album New Hobart, which offers plenty of memories of great Antipodean pioneers The Go Betweens and The Chills.
An album of lush melodies, hills and dales, it's worth listening through to it from start to finish though you might doubt the legs of DIY projects of this type. But New Hobart makes its way at its own pace, right the way to the finishing tape as its melodies and lyrical voyage is consistently involving if rarely engrossing.
The Chills Martin Phillips is the voice I hear most readily. Sometimes the influence is somewhat overpowering and you wish Teakle would tone it down a little and sing in his own . voiceStill, a record you might like to give a listen to if you are a devotee of its guiding lights.
