Japan discovered that they had it all, absolutely all, on a plate in 1981. Also that they weren't particularly interested. They always had deeper concerns. Effectively, they split very soon afrter their moment of ultimate stillness, Tin Drum, landed and a startled world was finally obliged to sit up and take notice.
This was the moment that somehow made the most impact of all though the whole record was something to treasure. But I can remember still watching them perform this on Top of the Pops, almost forty years ago now.. They seemed so out of place. One of the most purely artistic pop records ever to grace the Top Ten.
