Given that CoVid 19 seems to have had an impact on notable new record releases, just as it has on virtually every other aspect of our lives, it pays to look away from the obvious channels for new things you might like.
Bandcamp seems an obvious place to go to, and it's led me to find this interesting and original record, Bobby Joe Hope, the latest from Canadian Jon McKiel.
It's an Indie album, but treated and filtered through a Psychedelic and studio lens to some effect. The obvious progenitors for what's going on here are Broadcast, that most innovative and experimental of bands. McKie takes this as a starting point and sets off into lush, pastoral territory of his own.
The music here has a similar eerie and weightless feel to that band. The record isn't stunning, and finds itself wandering up blind alleys on occasion, but it has some really nice moments which set me off nicely for my Sunday morning.
