Singles Runs # 4 - The Yardbirds

Never quite a singles band, more of a live one, and a vehicle for extraordinary guitarists. Nevertheless, this isn't a bad run of UK singles.

1. For Your Love

 

 

Their best known and their big hit. Written by Graham Goulding, later of 10CC. Clapton left in pique when this was released claiming they were selling out their roots. If so, not a bad way to do so.

 

2. Heart Full of Soul

 

 

Dark and steely. Igg favourite which apparently led to the lyric of Search & Destroy

 

3. Evil Hearted You

 

b/w Still I'm Sad

 

4. Shapes of Things

 

 

5. Over Under Sideways Down

 

 

To my mind a genius single. Their last Top 10 hit. Reached # 10. However, this was a drop from their previous four which were all top three.

 

6. Happenings Ten Years Ago

 

 

Ok this doesn't date well lyrically and fell just short of the Top 40. Still, an incredible document of British Psychedelia.
