The author of this countdown has been on a crisis enforced sabbatical since early June but he's back. And I'm back with him to document the second half of his descent from 50 to 1. He starts again with a record I listen to a lot . Remain in Light. It's an extraordinary document from an extraordinary band of musicians and their assembled cast. This is an impossibly rhythmic, lyrical and ambitious record. It ranges over continents.
I was struggling to write bout what makes it so special. What makes Talking Heads so special and this album extra-special. So I looked to the Pitchfork review of the album for inspiration. The opening paragraph helped things to click into place immediately. Remain In Light makes artistic activity visceral and danceable. Listening to the record is one of the best ways I know to circumnavigate the globe without moving from the armchair in your living room.
