Increasingly when I listen to records I love I thing of how and why I bought them. Who I've listened to them with, My changing perceptions of the artist and record concerned, Elvis Costello will always remind me first and foremost of Rod, the great Elvis Costello fan of my lifetime. The guy who lived next to me first year at University. An important person. As important as the girl next door. I had one of those too.
King Of America contains multitudes.. Costello makes it hurt like hell. He also turns the lights down when the time comes. Freezes the frame. He tells you about yourselves and others. He walks the streets.
