I turned 60 three days ago. Did I mention this factoid perchance. Get used to It Starts With a Birthstone readers. . I have embarked on my seventh decade and it is a major factor in my thinking. I imagine it will continue to be so. Anyway, where was I?
I didn't do much during the day. I taught a couple of decent online classes. I got a train pass and I went out to RPM and bought Tim Buckley's first album. As it was my birthday Craig, the guy behind the counter gave it to me for a song. .I'm glad I have it at last. It's a record that holds a significant place in my life. .
I'm not sure when I became aware of Tim Buckley. I probably slipped along the Elektra roster, between 1983 and 1992. From The Doors to Television, To Love, to Tim. Now, decades later. when I go into RPM and they have a Tim album I don't on vinyl,.I buy it.
Tim reminds me of my sister Alison who has a collector's copy, possibly a first edition, of this. It reminds me of a very good friend who loved Tim, who died. It's a fabulous record. Tim hasn't quite worked out what he wants to be here and made his way to that place.
Nevertheless, it's a golden folk rock debut of leafy glades and dreaming and chiming melodies where the understanding of poetry and purity is manifest. There are hunts of darkness but mostly it's dappled and flecked with golden intention, I'm going to pay this a lot. It's a greay way to start a new chapter. .
