'Choose Divorce and regain control of your life and finances.'
Divorce? Sounds a bit final to me. Is that really the answer. How about reconciliation. But hang on a moment. Because this is good. Drive To Goldenhammer. I like a good road movie.
Divorce are a fourpiece from Nottingham. Although listening to Drive To Goldenhammer you might need to check on Google Maps. Who uses an atlas these days. But they are it seems from Nottingham, the Midlands. And not Nottingham, Indiana as it sounds, giving a cursory listen to their debut album.
It's cool. It's wistful. There's plenty of longing here. Plenty of romance. Plenty of narrative and romance. I confess I'm not completely sure they really want a divorce. I supect they might be open to reconciliation.
What does the record sound like? It sounds like Nice New Folk,It sounds like a dream. That's always threatening to tip into a nightmare. Like all the best dreams. A good start to the weekend.
That was interesting! I'd heard of them, but never listened. Think I might have mistaken them for post punk and not bothered. Loved the opening track, but it didn't quite do it for me as it went on. Not sure what it was. I have a couple of country tips from Friday with the Tobacco City and Fust albums. The Moreish Idols album is worth a listen, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips Darren . Will get onto them. I liked the Divorce record. Another case of a record I liked but probably won't have the time to listen to again. I think I'm getting old
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I'm the same. Constantly listening out for new stuff and don't spend enough time with albums I like. And I don't even have a blog! I do feel like I'm missing out, but don't seem to be able to stop.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we are both getting old, too!
ReplyDeleteTrue. It's tiring. But I'll keep going. It's good to have a routine. I'm also seeing a lot of good music. Tapir! Parastatic, No Teeth. Always some good free live Jazz locally. The Tubs coming up. Then The Loft. Then Horsegirl. I generally prefer it if there's somewhere to sit these days.
