One of my great personal formative Rock & Roll experiences was seeing The Cramps live in my first year at university. 1986. It was an early and important lesson that there was more to life than immediately appeared on the surface. And some of what lurked in the murky depths of the experience of being alive was frankly rather disturbing. I should have run away and hid. But frankly it was all rather intriguing.
Lux Interior spent most of the gig rolling aroind on the stage in joy and anguish. With the microphone stuck down his leather trousers. While the audience writhed, howled and screamed. It was by tuns thrilling, appalling. Exciting. Scary. Sexual purgatory. Most of all fun and highly memorable ! More-ish. There's no one qiite like The Cramps. There never will be !
