It's Friday morning. Captain Ahab, (that's me land lubbers), is putting his feet up in the Captain's Comfy Chair on deck and sunning his forehead. First Mate Starbuck meanwhile is scrubbing the deck. 'Put your back into it Starbuck. Make those timbers gleam.'
A translation is probably in order. I am the Captain of this ship. But I'm eternally grateful for the work of Starbuck aka Darren Jones and the suggestions he throws my way on an increasingly regular basis. I suspect he's after a pay rise. Unfortunately this is beyond me.
Here's the latest. The Way Things Work, the latest from Loveblaster. A band that sound more like a duo in the tradition of where Gram and Emmylou and Paddy and Wendy Smith from Prefab Sprout.come from.
Loveblaster are from Madison, Wisconson. That's all the biographical information you'll need for now except that you should listen to this fine, fine record. Like Paddy and Wendy at their best it seems they're aware of the way the actual heart ticks. What more could you want from a record. The weekend beckons.
Glad you liked it, cap'n! I think I get excited by this slowcore stuff more as I get older. Sometimes I try to rein in my recommendations, but then end up splurging. It's just nice to have someone of like mind to share this stuff with.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good record. Very gla I heard it. Interesting you'd call it Slowcore. Really reminded me of Prefab. I guess theree's some Low in there.
ReplyDeleteAs for recommendations the more the merrier. I always appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteIt was introduced to me as slowcore, and that is how they describe themselves, but it doesn't sound exactly the way that I think of slowcore, apart from being slow. The vocals/lyrics and delivery take it somewhere else, so I think your Prefab reference is really interesting.
