A book I read a number of years ago and loved. Here goes again. It's been re-published, probably partly because its author Dave Cavanagh died a few years back in tragic circumstances, leading to his writing being re-evaluated and re-appreciated.
It's the story of Creation Records. Starting in Glasgow in 1977, with the arrival of Punk in Glasgow and the impact it had on key players in the Creation story, most notably Alan McGee and Bobby Gillespie.
McGee was famously bitterly disparaging about the book when it first came out, dismissing it as 'the Accountant's Tale'. It's far, far better than that. In many ways one of the finest music books I've ever read. It simply doesn't print The Legend, The tale that McGee want to be told. A glam embellishment and distortion of reality frankly.
Anyway here we go. 'Now I Want to Sniff some glue..........'
