A fascinating artist working in a number of mediums. Benoit Pioulard, operating from his workspace in Brooklyn, has been creating music and sounds, photographs and more focusing on, 'patterns, pop stuctures, and decay' for over 25 years according to his website. A noble quest.
Chancing on his new album Eidetic was the first time I've made his acquaintance and I'm glad. Decaying pop structures and patterns are as good a way of describing this as any.
Switching between instrumental pieces and more conventional outsider acoustic strum. The record reminded me at various moments of Paul Simon, Mark Kozelek, Elliot Smith and Sufjan Stevens. David Sylvian and the other guys in Japan. Exalted company.
